Am I a DJ?

Being one half of Tim and Simon often results in my friends and family introducing me to new people in a certain way.

Friend: Tim, this is Paul, He’s a Chicken Sexer

Me: Hey Paul nice to meet you, I’m Tim.

Friend: Tim’s a DJ.

Paul: Really?!

Tim: Well I’m not really sure Paul. Am I a DJ? A Disk Jockey is “A person who plays recorded music for an audience” – Wikipedia (2012). (Tim really does cite his references in conversation – Simon)

Well, we do play recorded music on the radio, but I’m not sure I’m comfortable with being labelled as a DJ. A DJ to me is someone whose role is specifically about the music. Whether it’s an old school disco DJ or a modern club DJ playing drum and bass classics shouting things like:

“When the light flickers, remove those knickers”

That might be a lie, especially at school discos.

But, I don’t think I’m a DJ Paul, I don’t have the equipment and my music collection is modest at best. I’ll leave the clubs to proper DJs. I’d much rather be introduced as a presenter. I’m much more comfortable with that.

Anyway Paul, you’re a CHICKEN SEXER?!!! WTF is up with that?

Paul: Did you just say WTF out loud?

Me: Yes. Sorry Paul.

  1. I’M A DJ.

  2. Hey! Who is this Paul huh? I AM THE CHICKEN SEXER IN THESE PARTS!

  3. What IS a chicken sexer?

  4. aha. Thanks.
    carry on then:-)
